All Things Honest

You might not know this, but we’re a typical, busy, modern family. Shocking, I know. We place a high priority on slow living, but the day to day grind of work commutes, daycare, meal prep, laundry, and cleaning can make it hard to live according to our values.

I’m learning that usually, things don’t have to be as hard as they are, or as hard as I make them. A few months ago I decided to try to simplify a small part of our household routine – shopping for necessities.

It’s a bad thing when you run out of diapers because you didn’t make it to the store on your lunch break. You hear me, right?

I remembered Jessica Alba’s new company Honest and decided to do the free trial. I fell in love with the cleaning and personal care products, and Mackenzie fell in love with the diapers. Sold.

I was first drawn to Honest because the products have eco-friendly, sustainable ingredients, which I love, but they are also safe for our home. That goes a long way with me. That means that when Mackenzie wants to help me clean (yay!), I don’t have to worry about the cleaner getting on her hands. I also don’t have to worry about our dogs getting their noses into something that could harm them.

So far we have tried just about all of the products — except the stain remover. I can honestly say that the products work great. And if you’ve tried green products before, you know that’s not always the case. It will be a true testament if the stain remover works. I’ll be sure to let you know.

My favorite product is the healing balm. I sometimes get stress rashes (for lack of a better word) on my right hand, and the healing balm clears it up in a day or two. It also takes care of Mackenzie’s dry skin patches in a snap. It’s a fantastic diaper cream, as well. It is so soothing.

Mackenzie gets really excited when her box of diapers and wipes arrives on our doorstep. She helps me open and unpack everything and put it away — of course, not before sorting and stacking it first. I love that Honest products give me the freedom to give her freedom — she can be a part of everything, because I know it’s safe.

The third and final test was, of course, price and convenience. We do one family essentials bundle and one diaper bundle per month, and it is working out great for us. The price is equal or less than what we would pay for the same quality of household products, and it is about equal for diapers and wipes. I still buy about one pack of overnight diapers per month, but since she’s potty-training, we’re using fewer and fewer diapers. I think that soon we’ll be able to stretch the diaper bundle out to every six weeks. (Yay, potty-training!)

The convenience of having 80% of our household necessities (no paper products) arrive on our doorstep once a month is just… phenomenal. I love it.

Oh! And the customer service is incredible. I have never encountered such a cheerful and helpful customer service department. The team at Honest actually forgot to ship my dishwasher pods this month, but they took care of it in a snap. They also let me bundle toddler training pants instead of diapers, and they make sure it’s right for us every month.
