The rising cost of gas and just about everything else, combined with my ambition to exercise more and be healthy, have inspired me to look for some creative transportation options.
I love our Toyota Yarus – who can beat 35 mpg in city? – and getting the scooter has really helped. But, with all of our trips to Little Rock, plus car payments, gas, & insurance for two cars, I am seriously in need of a better option.
Plus, I really, really need to add an aerobic exercise to my workout regimen. Unfortunately, gym memberships are extremely pricey, and outdoor running is a bear on my knees and joints. Most gyms recommend an elliptical over a treadmill for aerobic workouts and joint health. As far as outdoor workouts, I’ve read that, overall, bicycling is a little bit easier on the body than running.
So, in short, I am looking at getting a road bike. Bicycling eliminates the cost of gasoline and the negative environmental impact of a gas-guzzling vehicle. Granted, Central Arkansas summer weather is a bear, but if I bike early in the morning or late in the evening, I think biking could really be enjoyable. Plus, the library, grocery store, and other life necessities are just a few miles from my house. Could be a great creative solution to my transportation/exercise dilemma. 🙂
My brother recently told me about the Arkansas Sustainability Network and their ReCycle Bicycle CoOp program. I’m going to check it out next week – will let you know what I discover. 🙂

Yes, bicycling is much less impact than running! Could be a great solution! I’m curious about the Bike CoOp, too.
