Chris and I love just about nothing more than a quiet evening spent together outside on our back porch. We have big plans to build the perfect deck, as well, but a common enemy keeps us inside most evenings – the mosquito.
I’ve tried citronella candles and bug-spray, but bugs often land in the candle, and no one likes smelling like Off. Luckily, I happened across a fantastic diy post on Design Sponge a few weeks ago. Recycled wine bottle torches? Oh, yes!
The diy instructions are incredibly easy. We made two torches on Saturday night and used them as a centerpiece. What a lovely evening with perfect ambience! A glass of Relax riesling for Chris and a pear cider for me made it just about perfect.
Unfortunately, we haven’t found all of the parts to do the hanger yet. The split-ring hanger and top-plate connecter pieces remain illusive. We’ve struck out at Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Ace so far, but a very helpful guy at Ace recommended an electrical supply store in town, and together we came up with an alternative plan if that doesn’t work out.
In the meantime Chris and I are stocking up on bottles – we think the big olive oil bottles will be lovely! – and getting ready for an all-out, ambience-setting, mosquito-fighting, backyard takeover.
