Battle Wounds

December 7, 2010

Mackenzie had her first set of immunizations last Thursday.

She was amazing during the appointment. She only cried for a second or two with each shot… but there were three shots. I had never heard her cry that kind of sad, painful cry before. I almost couldn’t take it.

She slept a lot that afternoon and then fussed and slept very little for the next two days. She kept waking from her naps with that same sad, painful cry. It was heartbreaking.

Then on Sunday night, I remembered the Velcro swaddler I made for her over the summer. I pulled it out and tried it on her – it fit perfectly!

She slept like a dream that night – from 10:30p until 5:30a the next morning! She was her happy, playful self all day long.

So, we tried it again last night. She was fussy in the evening, but she finally fell asleep at midnight and didn’t wake up until 6:30 this morning. I changed and fed her, and then she went back to sleep until 9:00.

I think we’re on to something!
