The Vintage Pearl

December 18, 2010

I’ve had this post saved as a draft for over two months, and not for any particularly good reason. Now that the Christmas season is here and everyone is shopping for gifts, I thought I would go ahead and post it.

Last spring I won a Twig and Thistle giveaway for a $50 gift certificate to The Vintage Pearl, but I waited to use it until after Mackenzie arrived. I couldn’t be absolutely sure that she was a girl or what her birthdate would be, and I knew I wanted her name engraved on something.

I finally decided on this necklace. It has all three of our names engraved on the pendant. I also purchased our birthstone pendants to wear with it, but I like to wear it with just a single pearl best.

The thing that is so special about this necklace is the anticipation that I felt as months passed and I kept waiting to order it. I was only a couple of months pregnant when I received the gift certificate. Not knowing with absolute certainty if it would be a boy or girl or when she would be born made the waiting that much more intense, and it was so much fun to type in her name and birthdate on the order form. It was official — she was here!

There is something magical about seeing Mackenzie’s name engraved there next to Chris’s and mine. We were two, but now we are three. There is still something about that transformation that takes my breath away.

My personal style may change throughout the years, but this necklace will always be a keepsake piece. If you’re looking for something similar for a gift, check out http://www.thevintagepearl.com/
