Sometimes I stand by Mackenzie’s crib while she’s sleeping and hold her hand.
She looks so small and vulnerable and alone in there, and I want to pick her up and hold her close. But I don’t do it because I also want her to sleep.
So instead, I slip my finger inside her fist, and she immediately grabs on. She tightens her little fingers around my one big one, and I wrap my hand around hers. So she knows I’m there and she is not alone.
It has become a habit. When she’s nursing, when she’s in her car seat, when she’s in the Becco — wherever we are, I always hold her hand.
