Family Mackenzie

Independence

July 6, 2012

We celebrated 4th of July with Lea and a rare visit from Rick, Linda, and Riaya. It was ridiculously hot, but we had so much fun taking Riaya and Mackenzie to the petting zoo and for pony rides at Franklin on the Fourth.

I really don’t know if Mackenzie and Riaya enjoyed the petting zoo or pony rides more.

Photos by Chris Wilcox, of course. 🙂

Oh, okay, just a couple more. I can’t resist.

We only stayed at the festival for an hour or so before heading to Mellow Mushroom for pizza, and then back home for naps and recuperation. We made burgers and tomato-avocado salad for dinner and then headed to our favorite spot to watch the Nashville Fireworks. We got there about an hour early and played corn hole until the show started.

It was beautiful, as always. Even Mackenzie stayed awake until the fireworks started. She kept pointing and “Oooh”-ing. 🙂

I am so thankful for this country, for the freedom that we have, for the autonomy that is ours, for our independence. These are precious things — so easy to take for granted, and so easy to lose. Thank you to the thousands of men and women who have guarded the flag and stood for our freedom.
