Let’s End It

It’s hard for me to say the words, let alone post a button for it on my blog. Sex trafficking. Such a horrible, horrific thing. The words alone evoke such a strong emotion in me.

Last year the small group Chris and I were a part of had the potential opportunity to work with Abolition International to help them with their fundraising and marketing efforts. It was a friend’s project, really, and unfortunately, we never made any real headway with it.

Then Sunday at Cross Point, Pastor Pete shared that there are 27 million slaves in the world today, more than at any other time in history. Slavery never ended. Natalie Grant, the founder of Abolition International, spoke as well. They encouraged us to speak up, speak out, and raise awareness. It’s an important first step toward ending slavery today.

My heart breaks for the girls who are caught in sex trafficking, who are too terrified to speak up or break free. The statistics for sex trafficking here in Nashville are shocking. In fact, a victim was found in a hotel across the street from my church’s new building. But there are other victims as well — children forced to work in dangerous conditions. Men and women forced into slave labor. So many horrible, sad stories.

We can’t let this continue.

Join me today in raising awareness. Visit enditmovement.com to learn more and find out how you can help. Do a Google search and find out what’s going on in your town. (Here’s a link for Nashville.) You can also click on one of the buttons in the sidebar to learn more about Abolition International.
