Family Meal Plan, Week of June 9

June 9, 2013

After a lot of searching and calling and waiting, we finally found a great deal on a chest freezer — $75 for a 5-year-old GE. We’re thrilled! It works great, and we’ve got roughly 20 pounds of strawberries in there already. We love it! Mackenzie is excited, too. She dropped a little half pint of yogurt inside and said, “It gonna be ice cream!” 🙂

With that new addition to our home and one more item checked off of my urban homesteading list, I am very excited to try freezer meal ideas from Modern Parents, Messy Kids. But for this week, it’s more of our usual. We have a lot of veggies from our CSA, but also a lot of meat that we need to use up, which is unusual for us. We did the rest of our shopping at Trader Joe’s for a change of pace, and we like it! I have to pick up a couple of “standard-nothing-special” grocery items like powdered sugar and lemon juice, but otherwise, our shopping this week was pretty simple!

Here’s our menu for this week:

Sunday, June 9 – Leftovers!

Monday, June 10 – Snapper with Citrus Salad. (Oops, we still haven’t made this. Rolling it into this week.)

Tuesday, June 11 – Shredded pork tacos with corn salsa and feta.

Wednesday, June 12 – Barbecue Chicken Thighs and Drumsticks

Thursday, June 13 – Black Bean Burritos

Friday, June 14 – Dinner with friends (sushi!!)

Saturday, June 15 – Grilled beef burgers red onions and avocado. Yum!

And here’s what is going in Mackenzie’s lunch box this week:

Breakfast:
Bagel
Strawberry yogurt from Trader Joe’s

Lunch:
Sliced salami from Trader Joe’s
Sliced cheddar cheese from our CSA
Organic fruit snacks from Costco
Strawberries (that she picked with us on Saturday! Aww…)
Blueberries leftover from last week
Walnuts

Snack:
Annie’s cheddar bunny snack mix
Homemade popcorn

And milk. Always, always milk. 🙂

What are you planning for your family this week?
